What is Chenille Yarn?

What is Chenille Yarn?

Chenille yarn is a type of yarn that is known for its fluffy, plush and velvety texture. The word ‘chenille’ comes from the French word for caterpillar, which the yarn’s soft and fuzzy texture resembles.

What is chenille yarn used for?

Chenille yarn is versatile and can be used across various yarn crafts, but is most commonly used for knitting and crocheting. Yarns such as Teddy Bakery are a great option for amigurumi crochet (plush toys) and baby blankets, and can also be used for various accessories such as beanies and throw blankets.

The plush feeling and chunky size of this yarn makes it an especially attractive option for cuddly toys and blankets due to the texture and size which can make a standard pattern much larger.

Is chenille yarn easy to work with?

Chenille yarn will be more challenging to work with than standard acrylic and cotton yarn blends. This yarn is prone to shedding on the ends, especially when handled roughly and during sewing. Therefore you may experience slight challenges upon first use, but the adjustment period is quick once you familiarise yourself with the texture of chenille yarn.

Chenille yarn is undoubtedly our favourite yarn type to work with as the soft, plush feel creates the most cuddly and adorable projects!
